Our research topics
Reducing differences in national and international energy statistics
Are the current targets for energy and climate protection truly effective? At both national and European levels, we continuously assess their efficacy through rigorous monitoring procedures. A key aspect involves comparing various energy balances to uncover the root causes of discrepancies.
Central to our analysis is a comprehensive empirical database that spans extensive historical periods and is meticulously segmented by economic sectors and energy sources.
How we get to the bottom of contradictions
The German Energy Balance, published by the Working Group on Energy Balances (Arbeitsgemeinschaft Energiebilanzen e.V.), serves as our foundational reference. Simultaneously, the International Energy Agency and the Statistical Office of the European Union publish their own internationally standardized energy balances for Germany.
Differences arise in the depth of presentation and the statistical methodologies employed, leading to inconsistencies and contradictions across monitoring procedures.
In our project, we delve into the reasons behind these discrepancies and propose an integrated solution concept. The outcome? A harmonized approach that seamlessly integrates Germany's data into both the German energy balance and international energy reports, eliminating contradictions and ensuring coherence.

Overview
Research in energy, resource, and climate economics must be both theoretically sound and application-oriented, and this is our commitment.
We advise public and private institutions using the latest economic methods. Our detailed sectoral and macroeconomic models examine relevant issues from national, European, and global perspectives.
